I just purchased a American Turn Master 17X 80 lathe from where I work (1985 year). It is a Colchester clone from over seas. I wanted to replace cross slide brass nut but company will only sell sets about $700.00. What are options? I have never worked on a lathe with taper attachment before.

this is someting you ought to be able to do yourself, if you have a mill, it would be very easy, IMHO. I did it for a Leblond, and the greatest expense was the Acme tap, but it was less than $50.00. The brass for the nut came from the scrap pile. If it is at all similar to the Leblond, you have nothing to loose by trying.
