I used something like this and permanently mounted it to my machine, (removed the clip, hid the wiring, ect.) Being flexible it allows me to put light where I need it. This style is aboutm $20.00 from Amazon.

This is what I have, I removed the clamp and mounted it strait out of the switch box for the lathe. Works especially well when boring holes.
