All new acet bottles use a cement like ceramic instead of the old balsa formula. Though there are probably a lot of the balsa/asbestos tanks around since they are still used as long as they pass inspection.
MC bottles (the little ones) can be use at up to a 45 degree angle if I remember correctly, thats why the valve is at an angle too. MC bottles were originally designed to provide light for acetylene headlights on motorcycles, thats where "MC" comes from. B bottles, the next size up, were intended to run acetylene lamps on Buses.
