The table moves up and down hence the Z axis. At least that's what I see.

the Z has a servo.....z is always the the direction parallel to the spindle. With a horizontal the Y is the up and down.

cnc on a horizontal is certainly not common......I'd want it on the Y and Z.....having it on the X seems useless for most horizontal work....I'm thinking its its there to provide power feed (which is the axis you want power feed on)
