  • Brass heat treatment?

A piano technician friend tells me that brass agraffes (a small part used for string termination) "crystalize" with age and fail. Has anyone heard of brass weakening with age? If so, can strength be restored by heat treatment? These are small parts that are under constant tension due to the tension on the piano strings.

I do know cartridge brass workhardens from being fired, expanding and then resizing then doing it again. I used to anneal the brass necks by standing the cases up in a piepan of water then heating the necks with a propane torch till a dull red, then knocking them over in the water.
