  • Help Wiring a 3 Phase Motor

I am in the process of replacing the motor on my Clausing Drill Press. I purchased a new old stock Leeson TEFC 3/4HP 1140 RPM on Ebay. I think I have it wired correctly but it is running extremely hot in a very short period of time.

Not sure how to post image of motor plate but I have the leads wired as follows (low voltage):

    L1 - 1, 7 and 4
    L2 - 2,8, and 5
    L3 - 3, 9 and 6

Am I missing something? I currently have it running off of my RPC and plan on installing a VFD but something seems amiss as it is running hotter than hell which makes me believe I wired it wrong.

I would appreciate any help and/or guidance.

    Thank you,

    Joe

your list is correct EXCEPT wires 4/5/6 those 3 tie together and not to anything else.
    L1 1/7
    L2 2/8
    L3 3/9
    4/5/6 tied together and insulated.

If this is your motor click 'View connections'

Says the same as our resident sparky says so don't run it until you have this fixed.

And if you find it's running backwards, just swap any two L1/L2/L3 phases (i.e: swap L1 and L2)
