  • Insert help needed for small boring bar

I got a good price on two baring bars but I am still figuring out inserts and would like to order the right ones the first time.

The insert is diamond shape and very small. Under 3/8 x 1/4 (measure with ruler)
The included wrench is marked with "T7" and "SFS"
Two sites list this but they do not provide much information:
    http://www.guardiancatalog.com/Impor...p/01907815.htm
    https://www.mscdirect.com/product/de...907815?fa=true (not the right photo)

    Markings on the box:
    01907815
    S125/8"MSELPR05
5/8" Steel SH 6"LG RH Boring Bar F/Blind holes
    Switzerland

    Markings on the bar:
    S125/8"M SELPR-05
    15-85846

Can anyone tell me what insert(s) I need for this?

They were probably sold off cheaply because inserts are bit of exotic..

Insert is Exxx-something (probably EPEX 1.51 or EPGT 1.51, can't say for sure if its not 2.51 size instead)
    Check the PDF below:

    https://www.kennametal.com/content/d...serts_inch.pdf

1.51 size is 0402 in metric sooo these could be right:

      Thank you.

I found this site and still looking for help.

      https://www.machiningcloud.com/wp-co...pplication.pdf

The angle is more of a 55deg so I think its a "D"
      Clearance "P"
      Tolerance "E" or "G"
      Hole/Chip breaker Has a hole "T"
Size ???? From center of the screw to the wall of the insert pocket is 3/16 which gives a diameter of 3/8 thus it is a "3"?
Thickness ???? the pocket looks 2/16" deep or 4/32. It is less than the 1/4 so measured in /32 thus it is a "4" or is it a "2"? either?
      Radius ??? 0 is a point, 1 is 1/64 radius...5 is 5/64 radius I thinking a "2" or "3"

The rest is really a big guessing game HC is coated,

      So I have a DPET 342?

      below is a DPGT 325
      Lower tolerance
325 "2" Not as tall or measured using /16 meaning its right?
      325 "5" 5/64 radius

      the LF is light finish

Still pretty sure its E-insert unless the markings are wrong on the boring bar!
Second letter in boring bar type defines the insert shape SELPR

A05H SELPR is even listed in the kennametal pdf I linked previously

I'll post a pic when I get home.

I agree with you but looking at the pocket, it looks to be 55 deg.

Maybe that is why I got them cheap?

Should be pretty easy to check the angle with angle gauge.

55-degree D-insert would be about 100 times easier to source so that would be definite benefit.

It is a 55-degree D-insert. So this is why MSC mostly discontinued these. For $30 for two? Not a bad price.

I plan on order DPGT 325 to see if they'll fit.

              Thank you for the help!
