My first thought was that an arduino or Pi would make an excellent data logger. Small, low power, many interfaces available. If networked the Pi can sync the clock using NTP and print using several different protocols.

OT - log security alarm alert time question

Would anyone happen to know of a simple device that would record a log of times when a 12v security sensor has been activated. This would be using a MURS transmitter to a base station that has 12v terminals. The base station now does alert when a sensor has been activated. As an example, the device would record or log times from when a mailbox open or a driveway sensor has transmitted.
Preferably, this device would be stand alone and not connected to a security system. Extra credit if the log could be exported to be printed.
