  • WELDING HEAT TREATED TOOL STEEL (01/O6)

I'm trying to weld o1/o6 RC 52-56 tooling that have cracked/broke, but I keep getting a fracture in the weld. I pre-heat the tool first to 400F,TIG weld it w/ O1/O6 rod, then anneal it to 400F. I try to get all the oil out of the crack but you can tell I'm not when welding it. Is this the problem? how do I get all the oil out? is there something that I can soak it in before welding?

    Thanks for your time

    EGG:
You will either have to anneal it, weld it, stress relieve it, heat treat with immediate tempering after after the quench.

    2) Buy a new one. This would be the best solution.

You may go through all that other crap and still have it crack - sometimes you cannot win.
