  • OT: Chrsitmas ideas for dad

    Hey folks,

My dad is an avid reader. He really loves the old tractors, fordson, 8N, Oliver, Massey-Harris, etc.

Any suggestions as to a subscription i could buy for him to give at christmas time? He also likes Hit-and-miss engines.

Regarding the tractor part of your question:

You might go to this forum and ask that question:

    http://www.ytmag.com/cgi-bin/boards.cgi

I belong to this, and find it helpful as well as entertaining! Get him to join.

Both my dad and I are mechanical, machine, engine and tractor inclined. Our house gets subscriptions to Home Shop Machinist, Projects in Metal, Live Steam and Gas Engine Magazine. For hard cover books I have found that some of the mall book stores as well as the bargain outlets carry some nice "coffee table" picture books on farm equipment and railroading in the discount section at this time of year.

        Dear Santa,
for Christmas this year I would like my Mum and my old friend
, Patrick to be granted a reprieve from their cancers.
For myself I would like a new, quality screwdriver set and some books and tooling for the workshop.
There is more but I don't want to push it too much. Thanks Santa.
        Ken

              Thanks guys, I appreciate your wishes but it is not my intent and I don't wish to hijack Robs' post;
              Merry Christmas, Ken

                Hey ken,

My prayers are with you as well.

                Frank:
I have bought several of those hard cover books. He really enjoys them. That is what is pushing me towards the subscription idea.
Does projects in metal still exist? Do you have the link for Gas engine Magazine?

                Rob
                Merry X-mas

Try this link, subscription information for Gas Engine Magazine and many books; http://www.enginads.com/

Projects In Metal is now Machinist's Workshop. That, Home Shop Machinist and Live Steam are all available from the sponsors of this forum.

                    JC,

I thought that project in metal had now become the machinist's workshop. Also thanks for the link. It is easier to ask someone who knows then spending hours trying to find the info on your own!
