    I had a freind who sold granite counter tops. he gave me two beautifull enormous pieces of drop. I had origionally used it as a substandard surface plate. I think it makes a better end table myself

        Just out of curiosity: how "substandard" is it as a surface plate? How much variation do you get if you put a dial indicator on a surface gage arm and sweep it across a section of the surface?

          yes thanks, I did the steel work. I twisted the stuff with a pipe wrench and a torch.

          a half thousandths or so? I didn't check it thourghly. I don't have a good indicator setup for that.
