Driving small theta drills by hand

At the end of a long weekend I found myself driving small diameter drill bits with pin vice _after_ starting center hole in tailstock, precision chuck. Was unable to progress to gauging... curious if this is 'acceptable practice' for reasonably concentric holes.

but how about making a small bow , like they have for starting fires.

How small is small? It's been my experience on any drill under a 65 is to run it very fast.
