Drove a Triumph TR-3 in college and didn't have any spare $. Buggered up the ring gear so that it wouldn't start at that spot (horrible grinding noise).
Removed the starter and welded new teeth on thru the access hole. Trued them to shape with a file.Never had any problems with it for the next 10 years that I drove the car.
I do have other stories that could go on for days. Army/airforce heated flight suit that I wore all winter. Driving in snow; good luck. Starting it (or not) at -10F. Carbs leaking from the choke (teflon tape cure). On and on and on.
Fun car; totally British. Still had a hand crank in the trunk (boot) that was fully functional.
