  • Pump rebuild

In a previous thread I mentioned rebuilding a hydaulic pump and using a 20 lb. propane cylinder for the oil tank. Today I cut the top off the cylinder just below the radius at full dia. To do this I first removed the valve, then chucked the cylinder in the four jaw chuck and stuck the live center in the threaded valve hole then indicated the as best I could.(these things ain't as round as they look.) Then I was just able to get a threading tool to reach the point where I wanted to cut. I was then able to cut about halfway through the wall. It was actually thicker than I thought it was. Of course I had no intention of cutting completely though. But by using the threading tool I could remove some material and more importantly get a good straight line to finish with a hack saw. Worked well now I must weld a plate in place to hold the pump.
