Metal for Leaf Spring?

Any suggestions for what type of metal to use to make leaf springs or other flat springs? Brownell's sells 1075 steel for this purpose, but the thinnest size is 1/16", way too thick for most springs. Would an old hacksaw blade (or other type of saw blade) work? The procedure would be to anneal the metal, shape it and bend it, then harden and temper.

I've used old bandsaw blades for that, I wonder if a hacksaw blade would work. I've also used old feeler gauges.
