I have completed three jefferies and one gibbs Farquharson using Rodney's castings, with success! Recently I made two Haucks which are a whole bunch easier! A whole bunch easier! I can have a Hauck action completed ready for hardening in a month if I don't get sidetracked modifying the design. I get sidetracked a lot. My first hauck was cast 4140. The second, 8620. Having a diagram the right size is very important. I got my Hauck diagram from a de Haas book and enlarged it to match the size of the cast receivers. Some of the smaller parts; extractor, sear, and hammer were off size to the point that I made them from scratch using .25" oil hardening flat stock. I just copied them from the correctly sized diagram. These kits can produce good actions and more knowledgeable gunsmiths!

    Anyway. Please open the package!

After much follow up and research I am much less enthused. I still have not even opened the box. LOL.

I have fixed a couple of the "13 Junk Guns I Bought On Gun Broker" last year.

I always wanted a welding stinger that looked like the north end of a south bound chicken. Often my welds look like somebody pointed the wrong end of a chicken at the joint and squeezed until something came out. Might as well look the part.

I wouldn't worry about 8620 steel being weak (they make M14's and M1A's out of it), Maybe the action design would be suspect in some cases. As for ~40K psi, many of the suitable rimmed rounds for single shots would fall in this category.

Yeah, its the general machine by the seat of your pants with a file that's slowing me down more than that. I was thinking maybe .17 HMR at this point. I'm just not excited by it.

Bob, I was just on the phone with Mike Ryan. He said that if you are the guy that bought the casting set from him, please contact him because he has found the missing parts you need. He will send them to you, no charge, just contact him as he has lost your address.

Well, that was a nice surprise... I had not even opened the box Mike had sent me. When I opened it up I definitely did not have the parts for two rifles, and I had one or two parts for a third. I can't really complain. Mike had told me that he didn't think all the parts were there for one of the rifle kits. He sent me a picture the other day of the additional kit pats he had run across and he is sending them out. I am still not sure there are all the parts there for 2 rifles, but someday if/when I get to this project there will be a lot of "extra" part left over. Looks like I'll have some parts for upto 4 rifles now. LOL.
