  • Probably Paid Way To Much

I don't care though. Okay maybe a little. Nobody likes paying to much. I've owned the usual array of inexpensive and downright cheap .22LR / .22WMR revolvers. RG/Rohm. Buffalo Scout, H&R, FIE, Heritage, etc. Some might still be in my safe. One RG was actually my working gun when I ran trap lines. Most were of mediocre accuracy, although I harvested my first wild rabbit with one in the 70s as a kid. My trapline working gun didn't have to be very accurate since I used it for dispatching dangerous animals at point blank range with CB shorts. I also carried a shotgun when running traps for actual small game hunting.

Side Note. Three CB shorts inside the brain case of a badger may still not put it down hard enough to keep it from jumping up to take a bite at you one more time.

Side Side Note: Badger is greasy and tough, but very tasty. Not as tasty as bobcat, but not bad.

Anyway I have always wanted a "target" pistol in .22LR. I finally bought one. I looked at Ruger Mark series pistols, but I still have heartburn 35ish years later over how crappy the brand new Mini-14 was that I saved up for months to buy back in the 80s. Yes, I do recall I told you guys I bought a new LCP II, but nobody expects a pocket gun to be much good past ten yards or so anyway. I do have a bid out on a Mark II, but my max is pretty low. I'm sure I won't get it. If I do I'll probably do a bench test heads up against the gun I did buy. In a box of old Christmas presents I think I have a pistol bag so I can do a fair comparison of the gun instead of just how I shoot the gun.

I bought a used flat side Browning Buckmark Target. The seller has already wasted a day so the odds of getting it this week are slim, but I am a little excited... to find out if its accurate, to find out if it cylces reliably or its wore out, to test it with different rounds, to just go ventilate some cans so the dangerous gases can escape, and maybe even resume my life long war on green bottles.

The Buckmark is a good pistol. I use one for bullseye competition.

You can cut the trigger pull weight in half by flipping the sear spring. Lots of tutorials available.

      How is the stock trigger?

I figured I'd start asking about mods after I'd put it through it's paces and got a feel for how it runs. I'm not really good enough for competition, but I may take a try at pre sunrise walking up some rabbits to recapture my youth, but with a better gun to make up for older eyes.

Stock trigger is OK, but was a little heavy. Probably 6 or 7 lbs.

By polishing the friction surfaces, stoning the engagement surfaces, flipping and adjusting the sear spring and removing the magazine disconnect, I got the trigger to as close to 2 lbs as possible to stay legal for competition, and very smooth, with only stock parts. You probably don't want to go that light for plinking and hunting, but its nice to know you can!

I also added a reed dot sight and some target grips.

There is a lot of potential in the Buckmark!

I just upped my bid on a Mark II BB. I'm not a huge Ruger fan, but it would be really cool to shoot them side by side.

I think I'm officially old. My 01 guy just texted me to let me know the Browing had arrived, and I said, "Meh, I'll pick it up next week."

Actually I have a receiver for a French MAC shotgun coming in, and I figured I'd just pick them both up at once. Its C&R, but the seller didn't offer it as C&R. Probably didn't even look it up.

                Free? Free what?

I just looked it up... The odds of me spending that much on a .22 pistol may not be zero, but it may be staggeringly close.

I want to get the target trigger for my Buckmark, the target trigger has a setscrew to limit the trigger overtravel. That is really my only "complaint" about the gun. Lots of rounds through it, and not to fussy about cleaning. I shoot mostly Browning ammo through it as it has the fewest misfired of any ammo I have tried.

You know everybody makes a big deal about the quality of 22 ammunition, but I can't remember the last time I had a misfire. Cheap revolvers, bolt guns, both Marlin and Ruger semi-autos rifles etc. Even an old pump gun.

I do have a few of the Old yellow boxes, and I expect some issues with those when I finally shoot them up, but I don't recall having an issue with any modern ammunition. I do recall a couple of the guntubers published issues with one of the federal loads, but that seemed more like a bad batch or something like that.

                        Not until today.

Best is a relative term often clouded by rose colored glasses looking into the past. That being said the best .22 I ever owned was a Sears no serial number .22 autoloader. Not a Ted Williams. Just Sears. I did later have a Ted Williams click clack gun, but when it went into burst mode (no ****)...

Sadly I didn't get to shoot the new (used) Browning Buck Mark. It needs a couple parts. I am sure it would run, but there is no urgent need to press my luck. I'll wait for parts. Still had a fun range day with a friend shooting other stuff including that 32SWL New Regulation Police.
