  • What is this?

Maybe someone can help me identify this device. It could be a part of a sewing machining for all I know, but it appears it may have some relationship to a machining. My friend offered it to me and since it had knobs to play with and moving parts I took it. It is about 3" long with a 1/4" collet on one end. The top knob moves the whole spring loaded section up and down. There is a straight slot on the bottom about 3/32" deep and 3/4" wide.

Exactly. Probably for grinding router bits. It does not appear to be accurate enough for end mills'

Thank you very much, Illinoyance, that is exactly what it is. I went online and even found instructions on how to use it. I never would have guessed.
