    On a large, heavy lathe threading straight in works fine. On a light lathe, it may lead to drunken threads unless you put some drag on the carriage....

    Push stroke vs. pull stroke doesn’t really matter, because the frame is pulling the blade through the work. The tension is there to keep the blade cutting...
