Of the two choices mentioned by the OP, I would go with the 4130(?). That is likely pre-hardened 4140, 4130 would require the addition of carbon to harden....Last edited by MrWhoopee; 03-09-2023, 11:12 AM.

That's how we did our 5c collet blocks in school. Rough machine, heat treat, grind the bore, then grind the outside hex or square to the bore....
